Course overview

Practical preparation for supervised community learning

Community internships bring moving schedules, unfamiliar environments and relationships that take time to understand. Preparation means knowing how to participate with support while respecting the adult whose everyday life you are entering.

Practice first-day agreements, realistic help-seeking language, bounded initiative and a small learning goal. Fictional situations let you compare a routine question with a concern that needs immediate help. The Community Internship Learning Map connects preparation with observations and a specific next attempt.

Designed as a standalone learning experience. No prior CPI course is required. Examples center adult community participation; local orientation and profession-specific requirements remain essential.

Who this course is for

Incoming recreational therapy interns in community placements; adaptable to other supervised community-support placements using their own program requirements.

What you will learn

  • Construct a first-day plan that specifies preparation, expectations and support contacts.
  • Distinguish agreed initiative, consultation and immediate safety escalation in fictional situations.
  • Turn an observed learning need and feedback into a specific supported practice attempt.

What is included

Six short narrated lessons with complementary readings, six fictional practice activities and worked examples, the Community Internship Learning Map, and a ten-question knowledge check. Passing score: 80%; retakes are available. Feedback is optional.

Allow about one hour for reading, practice and the knowledge check, at your own pace. This is a planning estimate rather than verified continuing-education credit.

Professional scope

This standalone course develops intern learning decisions. It does not qualify a learner for independent practice, replace orientation or determine internship eligibility. Site, university and professional requirements must be checked together.

The learning map is an educational planning aid, not a validated scale or competency clearance. No personal disclosure is required. Keep identifying placement information in approved site systems.

Learning access and optional certificates

The instructional content is free. Course approval has not yet been verified. Optional certificate purchase and automatic issuance are unavailable while approval is pending. CPI will disclose verified approval scope, requirements, price and availability before any certificate purchase. No continuing-education credit or credential-renewal eligibility is promised.
