The field moment

Good documentation protects the person, the team, and the story of what happened.

A few practice scenarios — fictional and respectful — that Course 001 uses to teach clear, honest documentation.

01

Behavioral support during a crowded activity

A quiet redirection helped and the activity continued — easy to do, hard to write clearly.

02

A role shifted mid-activity

One staff member moved to supporting as another stepped in. The handoff rarely shows in a note.

03

Transportation changed the plan

A late ride reshaped the afternoon. What changed, and why, belongs in the record.

04

A transition went well

A move between settings stayed calm. Naming what helped lets a team repeat it.

About CPI

A practical training brand built for the field.

Community Practice Institute develops practical online training for professionals supporting people in community-based settings — recreation staff, direct support professionals, behavioral support teams, and the supervisors who guide them.

Course 001 begins with documentation, but CPI is being built around evidence-based practice, clear support strategies, team communication, risk awareness, and real-world community participation.

It is a foundation meant to grow — additional courses, resources, and agency training are planned as the work develops.

Why CPI

Questions people ask about where this is headed.

Course 001 is the starting point. Here is how it fits the broader platform CPI is building.

Is CPI only this one course?
No. Course 001 is the flagship starting point in development; CPI is being built as a broader home for practical training, with room for more courses, resources, and agency offerings.
What makes CPI different?
Field-informed examples, reusable documentation tools, and shared team language — drawn from community-based realities, not generic desk-based training.
Is this for individuals or agencies?
Both. Individuals can join the interest list for updates, and agencies can contact the CPI team about training staff to a shared standard.
What about continuing education or approval status?
CPI is developing materials and exploring relevant CE and sponsor pathways. No approval, CE acceptance, or compliance status is claimed yet — we will share details only once verified.

Who it's for

Individuals and agencies, one shared standard.

Individuals

Direct support professionals, recreation staff, and team leads.

  • Self-paced online lessons built around real field moments
  • A workbook and self-check you keep and reuse
  • Language you can carry directly into your next shift note

Agencies

Provider organizations, programs, and supervisors training teams.

  • Shared documentation vocabulary across a whole team
  • Reusable scenarios for onboarding and ongoing training
  • A consistent standard for notes that hold up in review

For agencies

Train your team to document the same way.

CPI is being built so a program can adopt one approach across every staff member — new hires and veterans alike.

Train a whole team to the same standard

Instead of every staff member learning documentation by trial and error, CPI gives your program one shared approach and one shared vocabulary.

Reusable scenarios and tools

The workbook, scenarios, and checklist are built to be reused — for onboarding new staff, for refreshers, and for supervision conversations.

Built from field realities

Examples come from recreation, behavioral support, disability, and waiver-style settings — not generic compliance slideshows.

Current status
