Behavioral support during a crowded activity
A quiet redirection helped and the activity continued — easy to do, hard to write clearly.
Community Practice Institute
CPI is developing practical online courses for professionals supporting recreation, behavioral support, disability services, waiver-style programs, and community-based care.
Built for real-world teams, supervision, and service settings.
Learning together. Stronger communities. The field moment
A few practice scenarios — fictional and respectful — that Course 001 uses to teach clear, honest documentation.
A quiet redirection helped and the activity continued — easy to do, hard to write clearly.
One staff member moved to supporting as another stepped in. The handoff rarely shows in a note.
A late ride reshaped the afternoon. What changed, and why, belongs in the record.
A move between settings stayed calm. Naming what helped lets a team repeat it.
About CPI
Community Practice Institute develops practical online training for professionals supporting people in community-based settings — recreation staff, direct support professionals, behavioral support teams, and the supervisors who guide them.
Course 001 begins with documentation, but CPI is being built around evidence-based practice, clear support strategies, team communication, risk awareness, and real-world community participation.
It is a foundation meant to grow — additional courses, resources, and agency training are planned as the work develops.
Course 001 · Flagship
A self-paced online course that walks through documenting behavioral supports as they actually happen — built around a workbook, field scenarios, and a reusable self-check.

Why CPI
Course 001 is the starting point. Here is how it fits the broader platform CPI is building.
Who it's for
Direct support professionals, recreation staff, and team leads.
Provider organizations, programs, and supervisors training teams.
For agencies
CPI is being built so a program can adopt one approach across every staff member — new hires and veterans alike.
Contact CPI About Agency TrainingInstead of every staff member learning documentation by trial and error, CPI gives your program one shared approach and one shared vocabulary.
The workbook, scenarios, and checklist are built to be reused — for onboarding new staff, for refreshers, and for supervision conversations.
Examples come from recreation, behavioral support, disability, and waiver-style settings — not generic compliance slideshows.
Current status
Community Practice Institute is currently developing course materials and exploring relevant continuing education and sponsor pathways. No course approval, CE acceptance, credential-renewal acceptance, BDDS/FSSA approval, Category I sponsor approval, Medicaid/waiver compliance, or compliance status is currently claimed.
