Make the next interaction more workable

When an adult says, “I want to ask them out,” practitioners may want to help but hesitate over what to say. This course uses fictional community situations to explore invitations, personal space, uncertainty, refusal, changing preferences, and responses when contact becomes unwanted.

What you will learn

  • Distinguish interest, freely expressed agreement, uncertainty, and refusal in fictional social or romantic interactions.
  • Adapt voluntary practice and communication supports to an adult’s chosen interaction goal and specific barrier.
  • Select a proportionate immediate response and follow-up when a personal or sexual boundary is crossed.

Designed for community practice

Primarily for recreational therapists, with applications for behavior-support and direct-support professionals working with adults. No other CPI course is required.

Learn, practice, and apply

Six captioned videos, complementary readings, six on-page practices with worked examples, the Interaction Support Map, a ten-question knowledge check, and an optional course evaluation. Learning content is free. Plan approximately 60 minutes for videos, readings, practice, and the knowledge check; your pace may vary.

Professional scope and certificates

The map and original CPI scripts are educational aids, not validated assessments or treatment protocols. This course does not assess sexual-consent capacity, certify dating readiness, determine legal authority, or promise prevention of harm. Follow applicable professional, privacy, organizational, and safeguarding duties.
