Course overview

Keep professional support clear when gifts, money, and favors enter the relationship.

About this course

A practical ethics course about the moment a helping relationship becomes a financial or personal transaction—and how to protect dignity, trust, consistency, and professional judgment without responding coldly.

Designed for recreational therapists, behavior consultants, and other direct practitioners supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community settings. Work through concrete ethical decisions using short grouped videos, complementary reading, fictional cases, and the Boundary Before the Transaction. Each course stands alone.

What you will learn

  • Identify how gifts, purchases, reimbursement, borrowing, favors, and recurring personal help can create pressure or conflicting roles.
  • Apply profession-specific ethics codes and provider policy without treating one discipline's rule as universal.
  • Use a clear boundary conversation, alternative support, documentation, and repair plan before or after a transaction.

Put the learning to work

Use the Boundary Before the Transaction to make a professional decision more specific, person-centered, and reviewable. Apply the tool to a complete fictional case, compare alternatives, and identify an appropriate next step.

Free learning, optional certificate

At launch, the instructional lessons, on-page practice, knowledge check, and evaluation will be available free. The optional certificate step comes last.

Certificate purchases and automatic issuance remain unavailable while NCTRC session-content pre-approval is unverified. Completion requirements and any certificate price will be disclosed before purchase. No payment is due now.
